Voluntary Evacuations?

I just don't quite understand the concept of "voluntary evacuations". I know our rights are slowly being taken away in this country but I still have the right to leave my house if I want to. Isn't it a voluntary evacuation every time I leave my house?

You would hate living in Massachusetts. The colonies are gone but the police remain. They make everything a law here. After living in Minnesota and coming here. It's now a law that you must have health insurance. If you don't they fine you a little over 900.00 dollars, hey if you had that kind of money you would have insurance right? Stupid law.

Right Mcraven. It is stupid. Do they arrest homeless people for not having insurance? Or I guess I should say for not being able to pay the $900?
I guess they put them in debtor's prison, like the good ol' days. Plus I guess the streets look nicer for the people that can afford health insurance.

I support universal health care, but mandates are a dumb, dumb way to go about doing it. Not sure how it works in MA, but if you can't afford health care, fining people isn't going to do anything but make it that much harder for you to get health insurance. And any "solution" that involves allowing the big insurance companies to continue gouging people and screwjobbing them on getting needed care and prescriptions isn't a real solution, it's just a welfare program for insurance companies. We need single-payer health care in this country, but short of that, mandates aren't going to solve anything. That's one of the reasons I support Obama - his emphasis is on reducing costs rather than trying to force people to buy insurance they might noe be able to afford.

As far as voluntary evacuations, that does seem to be kind of contradictory. As far as me, after Katrina they wouldn't even need to ask me to evacuate - I sure as hell wouldn't want to stick around and wait for FEMA to help me. :-)

Big Tex, I agree with you, the people are getting screwed while the insurance companies get rich. Another thing that would help the people would be to make many more drugs be sold over the counter, no prescription needed. I'll vote for Obama but McCain will win in Oklahoma.
