The mysterious flash of light that many of our viewers reported seeing earlier Tuesday night was caused by a meteor strike in Oklahoma.
Mobile, ALABAMA - That's according to CBS station KTHV in Little Rock, Ark. Around 8:30 p.m. we began receiving calls about a bright flash of light and a boom.

According to KTHV the flash of light was visible from Oklahoma to the Florida panhandle. They also report that the meteor hit near the Poteau Mountain.

CNN posted video from Ridgeland, Mississippi that shows a bright light illuminating the ground.

Authorities in Mississippi say they got about two dozen calls about the flash.

News 5 got an email from a viewer in Monroe County who saw three flashes in the sky to the west resembling a roman candle.
