ROFL....
That shell had been emptied of shot and most of it's powder.
We tried that once -years ago - using the same sort of pipe assembly, but with an untampered-with shell.
The front piece of pipe shot off about thirty feet, I imagine because of the friction between the inside of the pipe and the lead shot.
It damn near almost broke the guys hand... the hand holding the front pipe.
Like they say: "Don't try this at home"
