Gates: Afghan Occupation to Continue Despite Opposition of Most Americans

Our rulers like to claim we live in a democracy. Under a democracy the mob decides what the nation will do, but when their opinions and decisions are contrary to those of the elite they are either ignored or the little people are told to bugger off.

On Thursday, Bush era retread and current Sec. Def. Gates told the American people to bugger off.

“Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the U.S. can’t let public opinion sway its commitment to Afghanistan,” reports the Associated Press. “Gates says it’s the responsibility of leaders to focus on the public interest and the long-term implications of U.S. involvement in the region.”

Secretary of State Clinton said Americans should love slaughtering innocents and designated bad guys created by the CIA in Afghanistan. “Clinton urged Americans to view the country’s effort in Afghanistan as aimed at protecting their families and their future.”

It’s the same old malarkey used to defend the empire. Convince the sheeple they have a personal stake in the occupation – er, war – and people may lighten up, that is unless they have a loved one in the military or know somebody who gave his life or her in defense of the poppy fields.

Gates and Clinton made their remarks after Barry Obama the teleprompter reader commented on a newly finished classified report on the Afghan war.

Classified. In other words, there is probably stuff in there the government wants to keep secret from the American people.

We can only hope it eventually gets released by WikiLeaks.
