Arizona Sheriff: ‘Our Own Government Has Become Our Enemy’

(CNSNews.com) – Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu is hopping mad at the federal government.

Babeu told CNSNews.com that rather than help law enforcement in Arizona stop the hundreds of thousands of people who come into the United States illegally, the federal government is targeting the state and its law enforcement personnel.

“What’s very troubling is the fact that at a time when we in law enforcement and our state need help from the federal government, instead of sending help they put up billboard-size signs warning our citizens to stay out of the desert in my county because of dangerous drug and human smuggling and weapons and bandits and all these other things and then, behind that, they drag us into court with the ACLU,” Babeu said.

...“If the president would do his job and secure the border; send 3,000 armed soldiers to the Arizona border and stop the illegal immigration and the drug smuggling and the violence, we wouldn’t even be in this position and where we’re forced to take matters into our own hands,” Babeu said.
Dever said the federal government’s failure to secure the border and its current thwarting of Arizona’s effort to control illegal immigration within its borders has implications for the entire country.http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/70324

Somewhere I read or heard a bit of the government's argument, the major ones being; 1. Immigration and citizenship are federal jurisdictions not states, 2. If you arrest all of the illegal aliens, where are you going to put them?

1. Correct. Besides, many, if not most states already have laws allowing police to check citizenship status of anyone they stop... the difference with Arizona is requiring law enforcement to stop people because of questionable citizenship. It's a fine line unless it happens to you. The police have too much power already in my book.

2. I know the quick answer is to send them home, but we all know that what will really happen is the city cops will arrest them until their jails are full and then they will pawn them off onto the state who will say it's a federal problem send them to the feds to await deportation. And you know that the boneheads will surely arrest who knows how many legit citizens and all the hell that will cause the local court systems and all of the paper work and, and, and... you get the picture. I have to agree with the feds, let a sleeping dog lie until we can come up with a real solution to the problem which, given the sorry state of our congress, may never happen.

OK, I'm done.

If it is left to the leftist Fed, they will NEVER deal with the migrant issue: Lots of "undocumented Democrats" coming into the country that can vote in most of the leftist border states - especially "Pelosi country" (PC* for short) - spells re-election for too many globalist Donks and internationalist RINOs.
On the GOPher front, the OMFR want their sweatshops, lawns, gardens, cotton fields and slums full of fellow Papists that will work for a dollar an hour, bring their families over to mooch off the Welfare State and thereby create government jobs for their BFIW progeny.
It's not a difficult extrapolation that migrants would also gladly fill whatever club-swinging, gun-wielding spaces in the Obammunist CNSF that aren't taken by the NBP and SEIU thugs (Remember the hyenas in the Lion King?). Goon squads and thug armies to control the plebes are indispensable to totalitarianism: Somebody's gotta do the robbery, torture and murder under the guise of "rooting out terrorists".
Illegals also provide grist for the Fed socialism mill that rationalizes "equality" as meaning "you better give U.S. everything you have to buy the illegal vote, you white, European planet-plunderer!!!", even though they've already spent all that and more!

*Used to mean "politically correct", but should be understood today as meaning Papist Communism...Same difference, really: Both end up destroying the economy and the country!

Mr. C - It wouldn't even be a problem if the feds would just control the border.
All this Homeland Security listing gun owners, veterans, libertarians, Ron Paul supporters as their main terrorist threat is ridicules.
They crackdown on the backbone of this country while they let a bunch of foreigners crash the gates.
You leave it open and real, actual terrorist can bring in God knows what.
I agree the cops have too much power but they should check peoples IDs I have to admit, I thought the cops already had the right to take you in if you are driving and don't have a valid U.S. drivers license.
Obama already told one senator that he wanted an immigration bill to pass so he wasn't really going to do anything about it until after it had been passed or defeated.

Ted - I think a bunch of U.S. citizens should get together and hire Blackwater to guard our border, word would get around and I bet there would be way fewer attempts to cross the border illegally.

Again, it boils down to money. Illegal aliens are here because big agriculture, big development, etc. wants them here. They work hard and cheap. Before the crash the mega-subdivisions outside of Charlotte, NC were crawling with Mexican workers day and night. Now, there's none to be found.

The Right Wingers are squarely to blame for this issue. They want the gorillas to crack down on everybody but the ones responsible... BIG BUSINESS!

Mr. Charleston, I dont agree with your comment on Arizona SB 1070.
