Isn't there some way to go up there and take tests? Put some sort of 'thing' on a plane that can trap the residue that is left up there...
maybe this is what's causing my 5 month old cough?
I think they could. They have tested the residue on the ground and it always comes back barium and aluminum I think. Some sites say much worse. Try not to breath too much.
