TOKYO - News reports said a man crashed a rented, two-ton truck into pedestrians, then jumped out of the truck and began stabbing the people he'd knocked down before turning on horrified onlookers.
The attacker grunted and roared as he slashed and stabbed at his victims on a street crowded with Sunday shoppers, reports said.
"He was screaming as he was stabbing people at random," said one bystander.
One onlooker reportedly said "For a second there I wished we were in America, where citizens are allowed to carry guns, so that someone could stop this madman."
A witness stated that the suspect dropped the knife after police threatened to shoot him.
This incident is expected to draw national attention to the issue of Knife Control.

Some people think that a world with no guns would be wonderful, at least with guns the elderly, the sick, the small and the weak all have a chance to defend themselves, if they want to.
What's really screwed up is that gun-control advocates point to the fact that these countries that prohibit gun ownership have lower crime rates than the US. This is true, but they fail to point out that this has a lot more to do with our higher poverty levels and dismal educational system than with the question of gun ownership.
