Cheetah Club

(AP) A strip club in Texas that hired a 14-year-old as an exotic dancer says it was swindled and is suing the seventh-grader and her parents.

The girl allegedly exposed her breasts while working at Cheetah Club in Corpus Christi, a violation of state law. Alan Yaffe, the club's attorney, said the club didn't know the girl was a minor and disputed the alleged sequence of events that led the teenager to work there in the first place.

"She came (into the club) with 6-inch stiletto heels and a miniskirt and looked just like a model from a Miss America's contest," Yaffe said.

Authorities say Leslie Campbell, 48, kidnapped the girl in San Antonio in March, took her to Corpus Christi and sexually assaulted her over the course of a week. He then allegedly gave her a false identification and forced her to strip at the club.

Yaffe called the story bogus, and the club is suing Campbell, the girl and her parents for unspecified damage in a lawsuit filed last week. It also wants a judge to declare that the club didn't intend to hire a minor.

"There was no real kidnapping," Yaffe told the San Antonio Express-News. "We're the victims here, sir. My clients are the victims."

Campbell was in a Nueces County jail on charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping. It was not immediately clear Saturday if he had an attorney.

Police also arrested Jeffery Shawn Martinez, a manager at the club, on charges of employment harmful to a minor and sexual performance of a child. He was released on bail. Martinez's attorney, Fred Jimenez, said his client is not guilty. Jimenez said the girl looked "very mature."

Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission Sgt. John Mann scoffed at that characterization.

"I've seen this young lady's picture, and I assure you she is a 14-year-old seventh-grader," Mann said. "I personally think any reasonable and prudent person could tell you that is an underage girl."

Authorities say the girl eventually escaped from Campbell and has been reunited with her parents in San Antonio.

Yaffe said the club has also sued Corpus Christi Police Chief Mike Walsh because Walsh issues permits for sexually oriented businesses in the city. A police spokesman declined comment to the newspaper, saying only that the lawsuit speaks for itself.

Jury Nullification

Jury nullification is the process whereby a jury in a criminal case nullifies a law by acquitting a defendant regardless of the weight of evidence against him or her. Widely, it is any rendering of a verdict by a trial jury which acquits a criminal defendant despite that defendant's violation of the letter of the law.

Strictly speaking, a jury verdict which rules contrary to the letter of the law pertains only to the particular case before it; however, if a pattern of identical verdicts develops in response to repeated attempts to prosecute a statutory offense, it can have the practical effect of invalidating statute. Jury nullification is thus a means for the public to express opposition to an unwanted legislative enactment.

The jury system was established because it was felt that a panel of citizens, drawn at random from the community, and serving for too short a time to be corrupted, would be more likely to render a just verdict, through judging both the evidence and the law, than officials who may be unduly influenced to follow established legal practice, especially when that practice has drifted from its constitutional origins.

So, if I am ever lucky enough to be on a jury you can bet a not guilty vote will be coming from me if the defendant has been charged with a victimless crime. No matter what the ex-lawyer judge instructs me to do. I hope you too will do the same if the "crime" shouldn't even be a crime in the first place.

Terrorist Watch List

Nelson Mandela, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and a household name all over the world, nonetheless is listed on the U.S. watchlist and needs special permission to enter the United States.

U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy (D, Mass.) After repeated delays at airport security, the senator had trouble getting removed from the airline watch list despite calls to Homeland Security and eventually a personal conversation with the Secretary of DHS.

Marine Staff Sgt. Daniel Brown was blocked from flying while on his way home from an 8-month deployment in Iraq. He was listed as a suspected terrorist due to a previous incident in which gunpowder was detected on his boots, most likely a residue of a previous tour in Iraq.

Now, New Jersey Democrat senator Frank R. Lautenberg plans to introduce legislation designed to cancel the Second Amend rights of well over a million U.S. citizens this coming week, according to the New York Times. “Mr. Lautenberg plans to introduce legislation on Monday that would give the attorney general the discretion to block gun sales to people on terror watch lists,” the newspaper reports.

Bob and I have the house to ourselves for the evening. We've been out to the back yard about ten times. It's like a mine field out there, only instead of mines, it's holes. Bob's a hell of a digger, he even bites the dirt if it gives him any problems. Anyone need a trench dug? I pity the fool that tries to walk through it in the dark.

I typed "Gun control in Iran" into Google, this is the first thing that came up.

I'm willing to bet that Iran has some of the strictest gun control laws in the world. Any dictatorship that seizes power by force is certain to disarm the people to prevent themselves from being deposed by force.

To those leftists who believe only the police and military should be armed, how do you feel when you see the unarmed Iranian protesters being beaten and shot by heavily armed riot police?

To me what is happening in Iran now is a good example of what happens when citizens aren't allowed to have guns.
I could be wrong, but if the election was so obviously stolen in the U.S. I think the people would fight back when the cops or military started opening up on protesting masses. I know I would.

Bologna

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma City police say a man told officers he was attacked for his bologna and cheese sandwich.

Officers say 24-year-old Roger Hamilton told them he was sitting on a bus station bench, about to put mayonnaise on his sandwich when another man began staring at him.

Hamilton says the man then punched him in the mouth and grabbed his sandwich and left.

Police say Hamilton has a swollen lip and his face was covered in blood.

The sandwich was valued at 76 cents.

The Illinois Rep. is proposing making "kush" dealing punishable by up to 25 years for a first offense. "Because we don't want to raise a generation of zombie-like kids who can't perform in school or athletically.

Is he insane?

Kirk, a five-term Representative, is known as a moderate Republican, so this legislation comes as a surprise. However, potency remains a common theme among drug warriors, and Kirk has beamed up onto that ship of fools.

Incident at 7-11

I went into a convenience store yesterday to buy some libations and I saw a boy that must have been around ten or eleven. A voice in my head said "You little rip-off!" I knew he was stealing something, somehow. I grabbed a twenty pack of Bud Select and looked to see if he went to the counter to pay for anything. Nope, he walked right out the door. He hopped on a green bike and pedaled away. I chased him down in my car, thew a full bottle of beer at him. It hit him in the head and knocked him out. I searched him, no stolen articles. As I drove away from the unconscious boy, I thought to myself, "Stupid voices!"


The first half of this story is true.

Shelly and I were sitting there, drinking a few beers and watching TV. I said "I say Hillshire, you say farms!" I said "Hillshire!" and you know what she said? "Fuck You!"
It's moments like that when I remember why I married her.

Wild Weather

I've seen a lot of storms in my time but I've never seen one like the one we had earlier this week. Cold fronts come through and it gets very windy for a short amount of time and they cause thunderstorms and sometimes tornadoes, I'm use to those. The other day it got very dark, like night. I had to turn of the lights at the Cookie Factory to see outside, so don't be surprised if, pretty soon, you get a fortune cookie with nothing inside or one with several fortunes in it. Anyway, the wind hit and was blowing about 80mph, really. It kept on blowing like that for 30 - 40 minutes.
It looked just like a hurricane. Rain was hitting a cylindrical tank and going straight up, a strange site indeed. Some great big pecan trees, probably 50 - 100 years old, were uprooted. They can handle 80mph winds for a short time but not for 40 minutes. Branches were down everywhere, it was a mess.

The weather has been very strange lately. A small tornado hit my old neighborhood in Norman last night. The strange thing was, it was moving from SE to NW, they don't generally do that. The gods are angry, it must have something to do with gay marriage!

Photos have surfaced that appear to show her defacing Oklahoma City property with posters of a great white shark, and police are investigating.

Police discovered the posters — aimed at raising awareness about the species' declining numbers — glued to a downtown bridge and elsewhere, including a billboard displaying a United Way advertisement.

Police Sgt. Gary Knight said Wednesday that investigators have not interviewed Alba, who co-starred in the "Fantastic Four" movies as well as "Sin City" and "Good Luck Chuck." She's in Oklahoma filming "The Killer Inside Me," which co-stars Casey Affleck and Kate Hudson. (A 1976 adaptation of the Jim Thompson novel starred Stacy Keach.)

Telephone messages left with Alba's lawyer and publicist were not returned Wednesday, but the 28-year-old actress released a statement to apologize.

"I got involved in something I should have had no part of," Alba said. "I realize that I should have used better judgment, and I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident."

Photos that apparently show Alba gluing posters and posing before the defaced billboard were posted to the site of blogger White Mike, but later removed. According to the site, the posters are designed to raise awareness of the dwindling population of great white sharks.

A statement posted to the site Wednesday read: "International pressure is the only way to do it and that starts in Oklahoma, the heartland of America."

An official with the city's Parks and Recreation Department reported the incident to police Monday after spotting the posters and the photos on the Internet. Alba's name is redacted from the police report because she has not been arrested or charged with any crime, Knight said.

United Way of Central Oklahoma President Bob Spinks said Wednesday the group accepts Alba's apology.

"Just as she is passionate about her cause, we are passionate about serving the people of central Oklahoma," Spinks said. "The interesting thing about this is with our fundraising campaign kicking off today, it's been sort of a funny thing that this has happened at this particular point.

"This is probably the best unearned media we've had in a long time."

Under Oklahoma law, maliciously defacing property can be a felony punishable by prison time if the value of the damage exceeds $1,000 or more.

Estimates of the damage are between $500 and $700, said Kristy Yager, a spokeswoman for the city.
