Are they safe?

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) doesn’t think so. The Academy reported that “Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food,” including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system. The AAEM asked physicians to advise patients to avoid GM foods.

Before the FDA decided to allow GMOs into food without labeling, FDA scientists had repeatedly warned that GM foods can create unpredictable, hard-to-detect side effects, including allergies, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems. They urged long-term safety studies, but were ignored.

Since then, findings include:

* Thousands of sheep, buffalo, and goats in India died after grazing on Bt cotton plants
* Mice eating GM corn for the long term had fewer, and smaller, babies
* More than half the babies of mother rats fed GM soy died within three weeks, and were smaller
* Testicle cells of mice and rats on a GM soy change significantly
* By the third generation, most GM soy-fed hamsters lost the ability to have babies
* Rodents fed GM corn and soy showed immune system responses and signs of toxicity
* Cooked GM soy contains as much as 7-times the amount of a known soy allergen
* Soy allergies skyrocketed by 50% in the UK, soon after GM soy was introduced
* The stomach lining of rats fed GM potatoes showed excessive cell growth, a condition that may lead to cancer.
* Studies showed organ lesions, altered liver and pancreas cells, changed enzyme levels, etc.

Unlike safety evaluations for drugs, there are no human clinical trials of GM foods. The only published human feeding experiment revealed that the genetic material inserted into GM soy transfers into bacteria living inside our intestines and continues to function. This means that long after we stop eating GM foods, we may still have their GM proteins produced continuously inside us. This could mean:

* If the antibiotic gene inserted into most GM crops were to transfer, it could create super diseases, resistant to antibiotics
* If the gene that creates Bt-toxin in GM corn were to transfer, it might turn our intestinal bacteria into living pesticide factories.

Although no studies have evaluated if antibiotic or Bt-toxin genes transfer, that is one of the key problems. The safety assessments are too superficial to even identify most of the potential dangers from GMOs. See our Health Risks brochure and State of the Science report for more details and citations.

While the Food Safety police raid raw food co-ops and raw milk farms for selling foods that humans have enjoyed for tens of thousands of years, the US Food and Drug Administration allows giant corporations to sell food adulterated with health-damaging chemicals. McDonald’s chicken McNuggets made news again this summer after a CNN investigation found that England sells a healthier version than what the FDA allows.

In “All McDonald’s nuggets are not created equal,” CNN reports:

“American McNuggets (190 calories, 12 grams of fat, 2 grams of saturated fat for 4 pieces) contain the chemical preservative tBHQ, tertiary butylhydroquinone, a petroleum-based product. They also contain dimethylpolysiloxane …. a form of silicone used in cosmetics and Silly Putty.

“By contrast, British McNuggets (170 calories, 9 grams of fat, 1 gram of saturated fat for 4 pieces) lists neither chemical among its ingredients.”

FDA’s ill treatment of US consumers is not really surprising. The FDA also allowed BP to dump two million gallons of a British-banned toxic oil dispersant in the Gulf of Mexico this summer. Refusing to test for Corexit in the food supply, the FDA declared Gulf seafood safe to eat. Corexit is four times more toxic than oil according to the environmental group, Protect the Oceans. “Oil is toxic at 11 ppm (parts per million), Corexit 9500 at only 2.61 ppm.”

Regarding McNasty McNuggets, CNN noted that:

“TBHQ is a preservative for vegetable oils and animal fats, limited to .02 percent of the oil in the nugget. One gram (1/28 of an ounce) can cause ‘nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, delirium, a sense of suffocation, and collapse,’ according to ‘A Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives.’”

CNN also reports that: “The World Health Organization found no adverse health effects associated with dimethylpolysiloxane.”

WHO is the same organization that conspired with pharmaceutical giants to sell dangerous and unneeded H1N1 flu vaccines last year, as exposed in the prestigious British Medical Journal in June.

Dr. Gary Kohls is one of many safe-food advocates who warns us, “If you can’t pronounce the ingredients on the label, don’t eat it.”

McDonald’s came under fire for its McNugget ingredients in a 2002 obesity lawsuit. The film “Super Size Me” noted that a federal judge called them “a McFrankenstein creation of various elements not utilized by the home cook.” CNN comments: “Among the ingredients that remained in the new McNuggets: tBHQ and dimethylpolysiloxane.”

Dr. William Campbell Douglass also weighed in on the FDA-approved food. “I’m impressed by the Chicken McNugget. I wouldn’t put one near my mouth, but it’s an absolute marvel of engineering — I counted 37 ingredients just in the ‘chicken’ and the ‘breaded’ coating, and another seven ingredients in the vegetable oil used to cook it.”

In a lecture before scientists at the Centers for Disease Control last year, real food advocate Michael Pollan warned of the dangers of “food-like substances [that contain] more than five ingredients.”

If the FDA approves it, you can bet some corporation stands to make a fortune. Better to trust food that humans evolved with over millennia than a corrupt governmental agency in service to profits.

UFO Sightings: Chinese Airport Closes Over Latest Incident

UFO sightings have increased in China in recent months, but one such sighting recently prompted an airport to shut down to prevent aircraft from crashing into the object, media reports say.

The airport is located in Baotou in Inner Mongolia, and three flights that were arriving had to circle around the airport to wait until the UFO disappeared, according to UK newspaper The Sun.

Two other flights were diverted away to nearby cities.

This incident was the eighth report of a UFO sighting in China in the past four months.

The object was said to be “flat and tubular” and hovered near the airport before disappearing, a source told The Sun.

There have been two other UFO sightings that have prompted the closure of Chinese airports.

The Blue Beam Project will pretend to be the universal fulfillment of the prophecies of old, as major an event as that which occurred 2,000 years ago. In principle, it will make use of the skies as a movie screen (on the sodium layer at about 60 miles) as space-based laser-generating satellites project simultaneous images to the four corners of the planet in every language and dialect according to the region. It deals with the religious aspect of the new world order and is deception and seduction on a massive scale. Computers will coordinate the satellites and software already in place will run the sky show.

Hacker infiltration ends D.C. online voting trial

Last week, the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics opened a new Internet-based voting system for a week long test period, inviting computer experts from all corners to prod its vulnerabilities in the spirit of "give it your best shot." Well, the hackers gave it their best shot -- and midday Friday, the trial period was suspended, with the board citing "usability issues brought to our attention."
Here's one of those issues: After casting a vote, according to test observers, the Web site played "Hail to the Victors" -- the University of Michigan fight song.
"The integrity of the system had been violated," said Paul Stenbjorn, the board's chief technology officer.
Stenbjorn said a Michigan professor whom the board has been working with on the project had "unleashed his students" during the test period, and one succeeded in infiltrating the system.
The fight song is a symptom of deeper vulnerabilities, says Jeremy Epstein, a computer scientist working with the Common Cause good-government nonprofit on online voting issues. "In order to do that, they had to be able to change anything they wanted on the Web site," Epstein said.
Because of the hack, Stenbjorn said Monday, a portion of the Internet voting pilot -- which was expected to be rolled out this month -- is being temporarily scrapped.

Given recent concerns over the DHS definition of “right wing extremists” and the agency’s penchant to affiliate veterans, gun owners, Ron Paul supporters and even those who question the mainstream media with terrorists, one wonders exactly who the boy scouts are being trained to target.

The Explorer program also touches close to home with recent concerns regarding President Barack Obama’s promised “civilian national security force”.

In Nazi Germany, the Hitler Youth succeeded the Boy Scout movement. Hitler Youth training was militarized in comparison to the Boy Scout network, which was largely based around education. Boys aged fourteen and upwards, as well as a separate branch aged 10-14, were trained at preparatory schools to become future Nazi leaders. At its height in 1940, and after it had become mandatory to join, the Hitler Youth boasted no less than 8 million members.

Apparently in a shift away from the traditional Boy Scouts activities of sports, camping, survival skills and team leadership, the government is now training children “to confront terrorism, illegal immigration and escalating border violence” under the banner of the Explorers program, with the aid of military-style exercises aimed at subduing insurgents.

Background Checks Required to Visit Your Kids at School

Over 3,700 schools in Texas and 7,000 nationwide have implemented a system requiring parents visiting their children to undergo a background check upon arrival to the school. This check is carried out by a company called Raptor, which summarizes their services as:

Thousands of schools and community facilities across the country use Raptor’s V-soft visitor management and screening technology to help protect children from sex offenders, domestic dispute offenders and other trespassers. V-soft works in conjunction with law enforcement to add an extra layer of security and keep our kids safe.

While the mission of protecting children from sex offenders has a broad appeal, domestic dispute charges include a broad range of situations including issues as minor as loud arguments among siblings. A definition of domestic dispute from USLegal.com describes the term as including non-crimes:

A domestic dispute is generally any quarrel, which may or may not include violence, within a family or between members of the same household. Definitions are governed by local laws, which vary, and may also cover including any child or an adult or fully emancipated minor who is a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, former cohabitant or person with whom a suspect has had a child or has or has had a dating or engagement relationship. It may or may not include criminal behavior. Local laws should be consulted for specific requirements in your area.

According to Raptor, their background check includes arrest records, which doesn’t indicate conviction or acquittal indicating that the notion of being innocent until proven guilty does not apply here. Below are the records included in a Raptor background check:

Recently, parents have begun taking legal action to defend their constitutional right to privacy, however, a federal appeals court has ruled that screening for sex offenders does not violate constitutional rights. The court failed to address the fact that Raptor screens for a much larger set of circumstances than sex offenses. Local Austin news station KXAN reported:

But a few years before, another mother, Yvonne Meadows, said, for simply wanting to see her child, Raptor seemed a little extreme, even an unconstitutional invasion of privacy.
“Don’t be asking me to fork out this information so I can go participate with my kids and their education,” Meadows told KXAN on the phone in 2008, when her case was still in the trial stage.
She has since moved away from the district, home schools her kids.

Disappointingly, teachers and faculty are being hired around the nation with often violent criminal records. Almost every week now, a story comes out about sex crimes being committed against students. While parents are being forced to reveal their entire history in order to see their own child, teachers are passed through the system.

For years public schools have increased in militarism,  allowing themselves to give up state’s rights for national control.
