Dust storm, wrecks close I-35 in Kay County

BLACKWELL, Okla. — High winds and blowing dust have shut down I-35 in both directions in Kay County Thursday afternoon.
Authorities said at least five people have been injured in 20 to 30 accidents during the dust storm.
Their conditions are unknown at this time.
  • I-35 northbound will be detoured at Tonkawa (mm 214) westbound on US60, northbound on SH74 and eastbound on SH11 to Blackwell.
  • I-35 southbound will be detoured at Blackwell westboundon SH11, southbound on SH74 and eastbound on US60 to Tonkawa.
Road crews said visibility is down to 10 feet.
Authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area.
