Debra Medina, new star of America's right, is firing up the race for Texas governor
Paul Harris in Lytle, Texas
The Observer, Sunday 28 February 2010
Lytle is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of town, one of hundreds that dot the vast flat ranchlands of southern Texas. A smear of houses by the main highway between San Antonio and Laredo. Population: 2,383. The first streets only got paved here in the years after the second world war. A sewage system took a little longer, not being built until the 1960s. In short, Lytle, Texas, has never been big enough to have much impact on the politics of the Lone Star state. And few Texas politicians have ever paid much attention to it.
Until Debra Medina, that is. When Medina breezed into Lytle's community hall the locals found themselves confronted with a Texan version of Sarah Palin. She wore a sharp scarlet skirt suit, librarian-style glasses and a puffed-up hairdo. More than 60 Lytle residents had gathered to meet her, a hefty turnout on a weekday at 11am for a Republican primary election in the race to be Texas governor. Medina has become a political phenomenon in Texas. Emerging as a genuine star of the rightwing populist Tea Party movement, she delivers a fiery message of slashing taxes and the abolition of almost all forms of federal government, and issues dire warnings that President Obama is taking America down a slippery slope to Soviet-style communism.
It's working. Previously unheard of by the vast majority of Texans, Medina has set the race for governor on fire, upsetting the primary contest between the incumbent, Rick Perry, and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Those gathered to see Medina in Lytle loved her. Young and old, men and women, Latino and white, listened with rapt attention as she outlined her agenda and asked them to back her in this week's first round of voting. If she can beat Hutchison into second place, she can secure a runoff against Perry. That would raise the possibility – distant but real – of a Tea Party activist capturing the government of the second biggest state in America. The Tea Party movement would have gone from being a bunch of ragtag protesters to heading one of the largest single economies in the world. "If we can change politics as usual in Texas, then we can change politics as usual across America. This is not just about Texas, but about changing the whole country," Medina told the Observer before addressing her supporters in Lytle.
She is not alone in that ambition. Across America other extreme candidates have emerged on the Republican right to challenge familiar party figures with a fiery mix of Tea Party-inspired populism. In Arizona, Senator John McCain is facing a tough re-election fight against a former congressman, JD Hayworth, who has expressed public doubts as to whether Obama was born a legitimate American citizen. In Florida the moderate Republican governor, Charlie Crist, is lagging badly in his own primary election to rightwing challenger Marco Rubio, who has the backing of local Tea Party groups.
On the right of US politics, this is big stuff. Instead of forcing mainstream Republicans to woo them for their votes, the rightwingers are now bidding for power. It is an attempt at revolution that could have huge meaning for America and the world, especially given the disastrous showing of Democrats in recent polls and elections. Medina knows this. After her speech she ended with a plea to her audience. "We can win this race," she said, then held up her hand and squeezed two fingers together. "It is this close."
Later that night, at a firemen's association hall in the much larger city of San Antonio, Medina's face stared down from a huge screen as she delivered a long policy monologue. To her audience she was the very antithesis of establishment power: a heroic revolutionary, out to destroy government and bring power to the people. "She is not a career politician. Everything she is saying will make Texas better than what it is," said Sergeant Shawn Mendoza, 30, a veteran of three tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. A few minutes later the flesh-and-blood version of Medina entered the hall. She got a standing ovation before she had said a word.
She began her stump speech again, still wearing the outfit she had in Lytle. But when it comes to speeches Medina is no Sarah Palin. She has no need to write on her hand to remember her talking points. Instead her speech was a complex walk through her extreme anti-government philosophy, citing sources as varied as the Austrian school of economics, St Augustine and modern French philosophers. She said she wanted to get rid of property taxes and allow Texans to do whatever they wanted with anything they owned, whether that was dig for oil or build an extension. There was, she said, no constitutional basis for a federal Department of Education or an Environmental Protection Agency or the Federal Reserve. Texas should assert its rights almost as a nation-state, controlling over its own National Guard units. The disdain for government was visceral. The American way, she said, was simple. "There are two rights essential to freedom: private property and gun ownership."
Such thoughts find fertile ground in Texas. This state has always had a swaggering, independent streak and a dislike for too many laws. Medina was born on a farm near the small town of Beeville in south Texas. She speaks with a homely Texas accent and worked as a nurse before entering politics at county level in the 1990s. Her bid for governor was largely ignored by the media as she crisscrossed the state for 13 months, visiting small town after small town. Gradually she crept up in the polls and forced her way into the televised debates, where she performed strongly. Campaign money began to pour in. One poll puts her as high as 24%, just behind Hutchison and within reach of catching her and forcing Perry into a runoff.
Medina believes she is not really in third place, citing the fact that the polls only telephone previous Republican primary voters, whereas she is bringing in thousands of new supporters. "I feel fantastic. I think we can win this," she said in Lytle.
Only once has Medina slipped up – in an interview she gave to the conservative radio host Glenn Beck. On his show Medina was asked if she thought the US government might have had a role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She replied: "I don't." She then went on to expand disastrously upon that answer. "I don't have all the evidence there… I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there, so I have not taken a position on that," she said.
Those comments provided ample ammunition for her political rivals. Her march forward in the polls was halted and some of her advances chipped away. The only time Medina appeared unnerved in Lytle or San Antonio was when a woman in the audience mentioned the Beck interview and asked her if she was a "Truther", in reference to the conspiracy theory that the government planted bombs to blow up the World Trade Centre. Medina looked flustered and started to answer before saying suddenly: "No! No!" and moving on to a new question.
But such areas are the home ground of the Tea Party movement. At almost any Tea Party event it is easy to meet Truthers or Birthers or those who believe Obama is a closet Stalinist or a Nazi or a Muslim fundamentalist or indeed all three together, no matter how blindingly contradictory such beliefs are. In San Antonio one member of the audience wore an Oath Keepers T-shirt. Oath Keepers are a group of veterans, soldiers or police officers who fear their own government is about to attack the American people or round up conservatives into concentration camps. The oath they have sworn to keep is to refuse to obey such orders. That sort of thing remains a fundamental problem for the politicians from the Tea Party seeking high office.
Calvin Jillson, a political scientist at Dallas's Southern Methodist University, believes the Tea Party can be understood as the latest in a long line of explosions of political rage in America. They include the Populist party that won elections in several states during the 1890s recession and the millions who voted for Ross Perot's presidential candidacy in the 1980s. "These things happen but they burn out like a prairie fire. We are in the middle of it right now but when the economy picks up it will fade away," Jillson said.
Yet the crowd in Lytle could not see any sign of economic recovery. Their rage did not feel like it would fade away. "I'm so mad, it's like chewing nails," said Lytle businesswoman Priscilla Squires, 60. She saw this week's primary as the start of fundamental change in America, while the experts say Medina's Tea Party will crash against the barricades of the ballot box. They are probably right. Yet Texas has always been a little different. "I don't think a Medina win is likely," said Jillson "But nothing is impossible. This is Texas after all."
Obama signs extension of Patriot Act/Majority think Federal Government poses a threat to their rights
~AP News
President Barack Obama has signed a one-year extension of several provisions in the nation’s main counterterrorism law, the Patriot Act.
Provisions in the measure would have expired on Sunday without Obama’s signature Saturday.
The act, which was adopted in the weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, expands the government’s ability to monitor Americans in the name of national security.
Three sections of the Patriot Act that stay in force will:
_Authorize court-approved roving wiretaps that permit surveillance on multiple phones.
_Allow court-approved seizure of records and property in anti-terrorism operations.
_Permit surveillance against a so-called lone wolf, a non-U.S. citizen engaged in terrorism who may not be part of a recognized terrorist group.
Obama’s signature comes after the House voted 315 to 97 Thursday to extend the measure.
The Senate also approved the measure, with privacy protections cast aside when Senate Democrats lacked the necessary 60-vote supermajority to pass them. Thrown away were restrictions and greater scrutiny on the government’s authority to spy on Americans and seize their records.

A majority of Americans think the federal government poses a threat to rights of Americans, according to a new national poll.
Fifty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they think the federal government’s become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. Forty-four percent of those polled disagree.
The survey indicates a partisan divide on the question: only 37 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents and nearly 7 in 10 Republicans say the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans.
According to CNN poll numbers released Sunday, Americans overwhelmingly think that the U.S. government is broken – though the public overwhelmingly holds out hope that what’s broken can be fixed.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted February 12-15, with 1,023 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points for the overall survey.

Climategate
[This article is from Dec 2009, just after Climategate came out. This guy gets how bad it would have been had the globalist not been exposed as the frauds that they are.]
[Something that I still don't get is the lack of outrage from the general public,
"Yeah you lied and were going to screw me, my children, my grandchildren, basically everyone on the planet from now on, oh well, no hard feelings." "BTW there is a 50% chance I will believe your next big lie."]
09:06 AM CST on Saturday, December 19, 2009
Santa makes his rounds later this week, but I've already received one of the best gifts ever: the complete unmasking of one of the most insidious movements of recent history – the radical effort to force reckless and needless constraints onto the human race in an attempt to change the planet's climate.
If I had been told last year that a scandal called "Climategate" would reveal in 2009 the depths of treachery that would infect the so-called science behind assertions of man-made global warming, I would have been thrilled. But I would have asked for just a little extra something.
I would have asked for this monumental and wholly deserved embarrassment to explode just before the opening gavel of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, an orgy of clergy and parishioners in the tawdry church of anthropogenic climate change.
The curtain finally fell on this 12-day global dog-and-pony show Friday, amid shattered dreams of launching a new initiative to dash the world's economies against the rocks of a contrived menace.
My gratitude knows no bounds. Not just for political reasons; this was a genuinely dangerous cult whose success would have exacted a profound toll on the quality of life of the human race.
The Climategate e-mail release is a watershed moment in the history of hoaxes. But while it reveals just the tip of the fraudulent climate change iceberg, it is also at long last a victory for those who wish to be good stewards of the planet's environment without crippling human productivity.
And for having endured the braying lectures of those who have preached this dishonest scripture for years, from high political priests like Al Gore to the annoying deacons filling the Hollywood wing of environmental delusion, I am going to enjoy this for a while.
This is not ordinarily how I roll on the fairly rare recent occasions when my political side prevails. Dangerous inattention to national security raises my hackles, but on virtually everything else – health care, taxes, even abortion – I recognize there are differences and debates that must play themselves out among those with varying views. I'm always ready to engage with vigor tempered by openness to opposing positions.
It is time for the global environment to be addressed in that fashion. While there is no reason to conclude that man can change the Earth's temperature in any significant way, our existence will always have some effect on the environment. A frank conversation must take place over how to balance human needs for jobs and energy against the effects we have on our air, water and land.
But for too long that discourse has been hijacked by those who would relegate us to unproven alternative energy sources while gutting the methods that have made American productivity unmatched in human history.
The radical left's hostility toward capitalism, leading to a poisonous bias in science funding toward those who sing from the global warming hymnal, led to decades of scientists saying man was heating the planet and that we could cool it by suffocating our economies with draconian limitations.
And for a while there, they were widely believed. Drunk on this falsely earned power, they crowed that the debate was settled and that their claims of man changing the Earth's temperature were proven. The planet's history of rising and falling temperature cycles dating to before factories and SUVs made no difference to these people. Even the global cooling scare of the 1970s – in many ways a more environmentally offensive decade than the current one – was conveniently forgotten.
But now their radical politicization of science has been outed and their pretense of caring about the planet stripped away. My favorite metaphor for these discredited neo-Marxist souls is watermelons – green on the outside, red on the inside.
I don't know if sanctimonious blowhards like Al Gore will ever be properly chastened by the uncovering of the scam they have perpetrated. But for those wishing to enjoy a playing field made honest, it is time for a constructive debate about how to maintain the global economy in a responsible way that honors the planet and the needs of the people who live on it.
That means embracing green technologies that actually work – which will not require a dime of taxpayer subsidy. We all want a clean and healthy world. From hybrid cars to low-emissions home products to solar panels and wind farms, plenty of planet-friendly technologies have won favor in the marketplace, and we are better for them.
And we are surely better off for the dawn of this new day allowing us to dispense with the absurd narcissism that man can change the planet's temperature, or that we know better than God what its ideal temperature should be.
This frees us for the important human business of taking care of the Earth in a way that meets the needs of both planet and man.

EPA Head: No Warming Since 1995 Doesn’t Mean Warming Isn’t Occurring
Infowars.net
Wednesday, Feb 24th, 2010
EPA Head: No Warming Since 1995 Doesnt Mean Warming Isnt Occurring 240210epaEPA Administrator Lisa Jackson engaged in doublespeak of the highest degree today as she told reporters that no statistically significant increase in global temperatures since 1995 does not mean that there has not been human induced global warming.
“The science regarding climate change is settled, and human activity is responsible for global warming,”
[What global warming?] [You just said there has been no global warming since 1995?]
Jackson said, adding that the EPA needs more funding to ensure climate change legislation is passed.
Jackson was asked if she agreed with recent statements by Phil Jones, the lead scientist at the centre of the climategate scandal that there had been no statistically significant global warming for fifteen years.
Earlier this month, Jones reversed his stance and admitted there had been no recent temperature increase and that his data was “probably not as good as it should be”.
Jones also told the BBC that he does not think the debate on climate change is over.
The EPA’s Jackson stated: “I believe all the new information we have doesn’t lead to any different conclusion than what we reached in the Endangerment Finding,” referring to the agency’s classification of Carbon Dioxide as a pollutant.
“…climate is changing and that mankind is responsible in part for that change, and that we need to move aggressively.” Jackson added, alluding to cap and trade legislation.
“We need to move clean energy legislation,” Jackson said. “We need to move to addressing carbon and putting a price on carbon emissions.”
On Tuesday Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe called for a full criminal investigation into the climategate affair, issuing a staff report that included a request for the EPA to re-examine the classification of Carbon Dioxide as a pollutant.
“The EPA accepted the IPCC’s erroneous claims wholesale, without doing its own independent review,” Inhofe said about the EPA’s decision to rely on information from the U.N.’s International Panel on Climate Change.
“So EPA’s endangerment finding rests on bad science,” he added.
An overturning of the EPA’s CO2 Endangerment Finding would decimate moves by the Obama Administration to regulate carbon emissions and introduce carbon taxes.
Inhofe described the manipulation of climate science to support anthropogenic global warming theory part of “the greatest scientific scandal of our generation”.
Illuminati Symbolism and 9/11 In Hollywood Movies
Welcome to the fish bowl
Last week the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals denied an en banc rehearing of the case United States v. Lemus, which dealt with a warrantless police search of a suspect’s home after he was arrested outside of it. As a result of the 9th Circuit’s denial, the search will stand, which has left Chief Judge Alex Kozinski none too happy. In dissent, Kozinksi basically accused his colleagues of abandoning the Fourth Amendment:
This is an extraordinary case: Our court approves, without blinking, a police sweep of a person’s home without a warrant, without probable cause, without reasonable suspicion and without exigency—in other words, with nothing at all to support the entry except the curiosity police always have about what they might find if they go rummaging around a suspect’s home. Once inside, the police managed to turn up a gun “in plain view”—stuck between two cushions of the living room couch—and we reward them by upholding the search.
Did I mention that this was an entry into somebody’s home, the place where the protections of the Fourth Amendment are supposedly at their zenith?…
The opinion misapplies Supreme Court precedent, conflicts with our own case law and is contrary to the great weight of authority in the other circuits. It is also the only case I know of, in any jurisdiction covered by the Fourth Amendment, where invasion of the home has been approved based on no showing whatsoever. Nada. Gar nichts. Rien du tout. Bupkes.
Whatever may have been left of the Fourth Amendment after [United States v. Black] is now gone. The evisceration of this crucial constitutional protector of the sanctity and privacy of what Americans consider their castles is pretty much complete. Welcome to the fish bowl.
Criticize GMO Go To Jail in India
By Ravi Kumar~My News
The Indian government is finally talking tough, the Ministry of Science and Technology is planning to purpose a new law which will see a jail term for anyone who oppose a genetically modified (GM) product.
The purpose law will prosecute any Indian citizen who opposes or questions the product of any genetically modified (GM) food or medicine and is punishable by at least a minimum of six months behind bars.
The clause to silence critics of GM food is contained in the Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) Bill 2009 prepared by the Department of Biotechnology, which is a wing of the ministry of science and technology headed by Prithviraj Chavan.
‘Misleading public about organism and products’ is one of the crimes for which punishment has been prescribed in Section 63, Chapter 13 of the Bill which deals with various “offences and penalties”.

Kangaroos poisoned by fluoride

Kangaroos
Fluoride from a nearby alumininum smelter is making Portland kangaroos ill. (ABC Local : Margaret Burin )
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) says fluoride from Alcoa's aluminium smelter at Portland is making kangaroos sick.
The EPA's Bruce Dawson says the fluoride is being absorbed by the nearby vegetation which is then being eaten by the kangaroos.
He says the fluoride poisons the kangaroos and makes lesions grow on their bones, which renders them lame.
"Once kangaroos have restricted movement [it] has a significant impact on their welfare. So this is something that needs to be managed and avoided."
He says there is not a lot of information around about the impact of fluoride on kangaroos.
The problem is more common in cattle.

Majority of Americans think Iran has The Bomb
(Newsweek) The U.S. intelligence community is reporting to the White House that Iran has not restarted its nuclear-weapons development program, two counterproliferation officials tell NEWSWEEK. U.S. agencies had previously said that Tehran halted the program in 2003.

True/slant
A whopping 71 percent of Americans believe that Iran currently has nuclear weapons, according to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey.
More than six in ten think the U.S. should take economic and diplomatic efforts to get Iran to shut down their nuclear program, with only a quarter calling for immediate military action.
I like this part: “with only a quarter calling for immediate military action.” I probably would have written something like, “HOLY SHIT! DID YOU HEAR 25 PERCENT OF THE COUNTRY WANTS TO BOMB IRAN RIGHT NOW??” But whatever. Blasé works too, I guess.
In reality, Iran doesn’t have The Bomb. They have a small amount of refined uranium (19.5%, cutely rounded up to 20% by NRO’s Mark Steyn), which is allowed under the treaty that they have signed. This is the refinement level for use in medical facilities and supplying electricity. There is little evidence they’re working on a nuclear warhead, which would require a much higher level of refinement, and the so-called evidence that exists is highly speculative. Additionally, their supreme leader/commander-in-chief continues to decry nukes as illegal in Islamic law.

Stone Sour - Bother
Wish I was too dead to cry
My self-affliction fades
Stones to throw at my creator
Masochists to which I cater
You don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on,
I won't let go 'til it bleeds
Wish I was too dead to care
If indeed I cared at all
Never had a voice to protest
So you fed me shit to digest
I wish I had a reason;
my flaws are open season
For this, I gave up trying
One good turn deserves my dying
You don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on,
I won't let go 'til it bleeds
[Solo: Corey]
Wish I'd died instead of lived
A zombie hides my face
Shell forgotten

And you don't need to bother;
I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on,

You don't need to bother;

No Marijuana Question During Online Interview With Obama
President Obama’s CitizenTube forum concluded today with questions about ending marijuana prohibition receiving the most votes, by far. Yet, an answer to the most popular question was absent from the president’s address, which took place on YouTube this afternoon.
Last year, when marijuana reform questions topped the president’s “Open For Questions” forum, the president at least answered — albeit without serious consideration to the issue.
Obama needs to realize something: ending marijuana prohibition is not a fringe issue. Not anymore. The question consistently ranks among the most popular whenever the president holds one of these unfiltered forums, and the polls are showing rapid increases in support for reform nationwide (46% of Americans think small amounts of marijuana should be legal, according to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll). We can’t just ignore it. With at least three states considering legislation or ballot initiatives to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol in the coming years, the issue is going be addressed in a serious way — whether or not Obama continues to ignore it.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that President Obama chose to ignore marijuana reform questions. The questions posed to him were selected by YouTube, which decided not to present the highest ranked questions to the president. This post has been changed to correct that inaccuracy.

Totalitarian Internet System too Repressive for China Coming to U.K.S.A.
By Gerald Warner~London Telegraph
The American blogosphere is going increasingly “viral” about a proposal advanced at the recent meeting of the Davos Economic Forum by Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer for Microsoft, that an equivalent of a “driver’s licence” should be introduced for access to the web. This totalitarian call has been backed by articles and blogs in Time magazine and the New York Times.
As bloggers have not been slow to point out, the system being proposed is very similar to one that the government of Red China reluctantly abandoned as too repressive. It was inevitable that, sooner or later, the usual unholy alliance of government totalitarians and big business would attempt to end the democratic free-for-all that is the blogosphere. The United Nations is showing similar interest in moving to eliminate free speech.
The recent uprising in the blogosphere that resulted in the overturning of the Global Warming consensus can only have focused our rulers’ attention more acutely on this infuriating challenge to their totalitarian control. “What will go next?” they must be asking themselves. Unrestricted immigration? Punitive taxation? Even the European Union? With the helots exploiting a loophole in the PC Curtain that has otherwise been so remorselessly drawn down over freedom of expression, the internet represents a dangerously subversive force, fulfilling the role in the West that was formerly performed by samizdat publications inside the Soviet Union.
American protesters are most vociferous in defence of their rights because that is their culture. Some of them claim that British people are being dangerously indifferent to the long-term potential for censorship of the so-called Digital Economy Bill being slithered through Parliament by Lord Mandelson. The inference they draw is that, just as Britons supinely submitted to firearms legislation that has led to a situation where “only the bad guys have guns”, we may be sleepwalking into internet slavery.
The technique is familiar. The powers-that-be allow a scandalous situation to develop whereby no serious attempt is made to police paedophile, pornographic and criminal activity on the web. Then the authorities use the excuse of public concern to overreact and impose Draconian controls that police ordinary citizens but are usually circumvented by criminals. It is a familiar scenario, offline as well as in cyberspace.
A “driver’s licence” for the web would be Christmas every day of the year for the control freaks. One can all too easily imagine the criteria applied to licence applications. (“Name? Delingpole…? You wot! ’Ere, I’ve got your number, mate – you’re that bloke wot feeds polar-bear steaks to kids innit. Internet licence? I should coco! On yer bike, mate, it’s more than my job’s worth to be seen talking to you…”)
Without the internet, the completely fictitious global warming “consensus” would still be unchallenged, state power massively enlarged, $54 trillion of Western taxpayers’ money flooding into the coffers of carbon companies and people’s lives made miserable by totalitarian restrictions imposed to counter a non-existent threat. I forecast that the right to anonymity on the internet will become one of the most fiercely contested issues over the coming decade. Be very afraid…

Tax breaks, Patriot Act extension in bipartisan jobs bill
Taking away our freedoms is not Patriotic. In fact, there is nothing more un-American.
The badly misnamed Patriot Act is not the Act of Patriots. It is the act of petty tyrants seeking more and more power and control over our country.
Now, ever so quietly, the Obama administration is working with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to sneak reauthorization of the Patriot Act through without creating a stir among liberty-minded Americans.
Well, I’m for making a stir. A BIG STIR.
How about you?
We’ve all heard the defenses. How the Patriot Act was needed to combat “terrorism.” How it would not be used against U.S. citizens.
How it would not be abused.
These lies have all been clearly exposed. For eight years, the American people have ignored the wisdom of our founding fathers and traded freedom for security – and as predicted, we are losing both as a result.
And now, Congress and the White House are set to reauthorize the so-called Patriot Act.
They have until the end of this month to act. Even talk about a window-dressing “reform” bill has stopped. The Mainstream Media, fixated on Obama and tea party rallies, doesn’t say a word about it.
Frankly, you and I know the Patriot Act should be scrapped, or at least massively re-written to block federal snoops from casting fishing nets over the lives, histories and data of hard-working Americans.
Unless you and I act today, however, this won’t happen. . .
. . . and the Patriot Act will be reauthorized for another five years or more without hardly a peep or a dissent.
The weak link for the snoop-state insiders remains the U.S. Senate — where one Big Government boondoggle after another has been bottled up or defeated.
But my contacts in the Senate say there’s not hardly a peep of opposition to the Patriot Act being heard right now. They say they are willing to fight — some even admit privately it was a mistake supporting it the first time when President Bush demanded it in the midst of the outrage following the 9/11 attacks.
But no one will take this on unless there is a shout of opposition from the American people.
If we do not stop this reauthorization, we’ll see a whole lot more of what we’ve gotten over the last eight years:
*** Federal and State law enforcement on fishing expeditions, searching telephone, email, medical, financial, and other records looking for a needle in a haystack – and abridging the freedom of law abiding citizens everywhere.
*** Warrantless searches and roving wiretaps, paying telephone providers for access to TRILLIONS of phone records and ignoring Fourth Amendment protections.
*** Broad powers for the Treasury Department and Immigrations Department to rewrite regulations, access records, and conduct proceedings in secret.
*** Holding American citizens in violation of their constitutional rights simply because someone in the government has declared them an “enemy combatant.”
*** Vast amounts of electronic data on virtually every American swept up by insider arrangements and purchases from phone companies, airlines and other businesses afraid to say no to a government “request.”
As you well know, this isn’t some conspiracy theory. This is happening all around us.
And you and I can help put a stop to it today.
One of the most egregious abuses of the Constitution, using the Patriot Act as its basis, is so-called National Security letters, used commonly by the FBI.
It has been estimated that the FBI has used these NSLs – which allow access to records WITHOUT any court or search warrant – at least 50,000 times since 2001.
Just one example, noted in BusinessWeek in 2005, showed that the FBI had issued tens of thousands of NSLs and had obtained one million financial, credit, employment, and health records from the customers of targeted Las Vegas businesses. Selected businesses included casinos, storage warehouses and car rental agencies.
And that’s just one case.
Our federal government is out of control, and every day we see it attempting to abridge more of our constitutional rights.
We know they’d take away our Second Amendment rights in a heartbeat if they could, and we must also remain vigilant to this threat.
They’re spending us and our children into poverty, with crushing trillion dollar deficits.
And they’re allowing the out of control Fed to ruin the dollar and push forward toward the collapse of our currency and way of life.
All of these are vital fights.
But none are more critical at the moment than taking back our freedoms from the statists and power-hungry federal thugs who use the Patriot Act to dig into every aspect of American lives under the false pretense of making us safer.
We cannot be a free nation and have this un-American law on the books.
Liberty-minded Americans from the left and the right are outraged. But outrage alone won’t be enough. Every single one of us must take action today.
Campaign for Liberty has a three point plan to get as many senators as possible to vote against the Patriot Act:
** Your Petitions, and hundreds of thousands like them, will be delivered to the Senate, showing the tidal wave of opposition to the Patriot Act. You can sign by clicking HERE.
** Editorials and Op-Eds across the country to help swing the tide of public opinion to oppose this dangerous abuse of power.
** TV and Radio Ads in targeted states. As you may recall, our program has helped keep Socialized medicine from becoming a reality.
Public pressure works. Think of the agenda items that are stalled in Congress in no small part due to pressure from outraged citizens. Socialized Medicine. Big Labor’s Card Check. Gun grabbing bills. You name it; we’re beating it back.
The time is now to turn our attention to stopping the Patriot Act in its tracks.
The issue already became hot enough that the Senate could only muster a 60 day extension of the bill because of the threat of a Senate filibuster back in December. But now the politicians think all is clear. There is silence on this issue.
Well, I think it’s time for them to hear us loud and clear.
Remember, the statists need 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. We can and must win this fight.
In Liberty,
John Tate
President
P.S.: If you and I don’t take the lead, I’m certain the Patriot Act will be renewed, and we will continue to have our freedom and our private information taken away by our government.
You and I need to shine a bright spotlight on what Congress hopes will be a quiet fight.
Let's Just Change the Name to AminoSweet
In response to growing awareness about the dangers of artificial sweeteners, what does the manufacturer of one of the world’s most notable artificial sweeteners do? Why, rename it and begin marketing it as natural, of course. This is precisely the strategy of Ajinomoto, maker of aspartame, which hopes to pull the wool over the eyes of the public with its rebranded version of aspartame, called “AminoSweet”.

To Protect and Serve
Protect - to defend or guard from attack, invasion, loss, annoyance, insult, etc.; cover or shield from injury or danger.
Serve - to render assistance; be of use; help.
I know this kind of thing happens all the time (and much worse) but when it's in your own small town it just become an undeniable reality.
The cops suspect a guy of dealing drugs (these cops, not being particularly bright, could suspect just about anyone, it doesn't mean that this guy really is dealing).
They see his wife in town and pull her over for some bogus reason. She has her kids in the car, the cops just happen to have a drug dog with them. They run the dog around the car and it supposedly "hits" on something. (There's really no way to know if it hit on anything or not. Some dogs are trained to act like they smelled something on a subtle command. Not being that sophisticated, this dog probably just ran around the car.) The cops said that Spike smelled drugs, they made the mom sit in the police car while they searched the car. The kids were crying and freaking out. The cops said "We found some seeds and a small amount of marijuana." The mom knowing that there was nothing illegal in the car said "I want to see it." The cops refused to produce the imaginary pot. One of the orifices, I mean officers, quietly said, we can call CPS (child pedophile services) to come get your kids, but if you tell us what your husband is dealing, we can make this all go away. Not having anything to tell them in the first place and not being a dirty stinking rat in the second place, she told them nothing. The cops wrote her a ticket for not using her turn signal or whatever they decided to make up and let her go, there by proving that the pot was indeed imaginary.
I know this stuff goes on in big cities all the time but when it happens in a little town like this it really makes you ask the question. "Who is the real enemy of our citizens?"

CBS Bans Ad for Marijuana Legalization Over “Morals”
Editor’s note: Once again, nature bad but booze, cigarette and big pharma ‘medicate yourself’ ads are fine.
By Paul Armentano~Alternet
The fifteen-second ad, which asserts that taxing and regulating the adult use and sale of marijuana would raise ‘billions of dollars in national revenue, was scheduled to appear on CBS’s 42nd Street digital billboard beginning on Monday, February 1, 2010.
Representatives from Neutron Media approached NORML in mid-January about placing the ad, which was scheduled to air 18 times per day for a two-month period. The NORML Foundation entered into a contractual agreement with Neutron Media to air two separate NORML advertisements, and produced an initial ad exclusively for broadcast on the CBS digital billboard.
Days after NORML’s submitted the ad, the organization received the following e-mail, dated February 3, from a representative from Neutron Media stated: “I just received word from CBS and they will not approve your ad. If CBS changes their morals we will let you know.”
NORML’s 15-second animated advertisement is available online here.
Commenting on CBS’ last minute rejection of the ad, NORML Foundation Executive Allen St. Pierre said, “Major media corporations like CBS have no problem airing programming that allows them to profit off the public’s interest in marijuana and marijuana law reform, such as Showtime’s hit series Weeds and the CBSnews.com online series ‘Marijuana Nation.’ Yet these same corporate entities balk at airing media that calls on reforming America’s criminal marijuana policies – policies that have led directly to the arrest of over 20 million Americans since 1965. How can advocates be expected to change these failed policies when those that control America’s airwaves refuse to allow them a public forum to voice their point of view?”
According to the results of a December 2009 Angus Reid survey, fifty-three percent of Americans now support legalizing marijuana.
St. Pierre continued: “University studies show that regulating the adult use of marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol would raise over $30 billion annually in new tax revenue, while saving an addition $15 billion per year in law enforcement costs. The content of NORML’s ad is based on sound, readily identifiable data. Moreover, the message of NORML’s advertisement is supported by a majority of the public. CBS’ denial of this ad spot is based on the company’s political and cultural bias and nothing more.”
Last summer NORML entered into negotiations with CBS to launch a live Saturday night radio broadcast on the corporation’s ChatAboutIt.com talk radio network. CBS representatives initially agreed to the programming, but then abruptly canceled the contract after NORML had raised the funding to produce its first show.
In 2009, the NORML Foundation launched the first-ever nationwide television ad campaign calling for the regulation of marijuana by adults. The Foundation purchased over 7,700 ad buys on prominent cable networks like CNBC, Fox News, G4, and FX. The ad campaign did not air on any CBS-affiliated networks.
Last week, moderators of a February 1 live YouTube debate with President Barack Obama failed to ask any questions regarding marijuana policy, even though the topic was the top vote getter on the website’s Citizen Tube/State of the Union poll.

Two Basic Personality Types
There seems to be two basic personality types involved in the “gun control” debate. They are:
1. The “cold, dead fingers” crowd, who, because of combat or law enforcement experience, a personal encounter with violent crime, or a thoughtful analysis of history (mixed in with some simple common sense), realize that personal self defense is a natural right, an unalienable right. It is a right that is not merely a privilege granted to you by government. And to many, along with the defense of the innocent, it is a mandate of their deepest religious beliefs.
2. The “only soldiers and the police should have guns” crowd. These patently illogical and deluded individuals have a perverse trust in government, especially Big Government. In fact, for most of them, the Bigger the Better… ala the United Nations. Many of them are mentally ill. See psychiatrist Dr. Sarah Thompson’s terrifically insightful essay here: "Raging Against Self Defense"

Authorities stop van, find marijuana plants growing inside
The Kansas City Star
Nathaniel Evans
A 30-year-old man faces drug possession charges after authorities said they found two dozen marijuana plants growing inside his van.
Nathaniel F. Evans of Yarmouth, Maine, is charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with felony possession, manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance.
On Wednesday, authorities found 26 marijuana plants growing under a battery-powered heat lamp inside Evans’ Ford van, said Sgt. Steve Leone.
“We sometimes find mobile meth cooking labs, but we normally don’t find a mobile marijuana growing operation,” Leone said.
Evans was driving through the area Wednesday morning when police stopped his van near Interstate 70 and Woods Chapel Road.
Investigators searched the vehicle and found small marijuana plants growing in a plastic tote rigged with a heat lamp powered by the vehicle’s battery, Leone said.
Bond for Evans was set at $25,000.

The Way I See It
Glenn Beck is a Tea Party fraud.
Palin is another Tea Party fraud.
I think that there should be a REAL investigation into 9/11. Six of the 10 members of the 9/11 commission say that their investigation was a complete whitewash. I think the U.S. should only defend the U.S. We should tell Israel "It's been fun but now you are on your own." "Start all the wars you want, we are out of it." We should leave Iran TF alone and let them have nuclear weapons if they want them, frankly it's none of our business. We have them. I have a gun. Should I try to prevent everyone one my block from getting one? Boy, that makes me pretty special huh? We need to leave the internet TF alone too. We need to stick to the constitution and our constitutional rights. It's really PF simple.

Internet Censorship Protest Shuts Down Australian Government Websites
Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
Thursday, February 11, 2010
Hackers protesting government censorship of the Internet have shut down several Australian government websites in a demonstration against the announcement that filters would be imposed to block access to websites deemed offensive by the authorities.
The campaign was launched by the anti-Scientology group Anonymous in response to plans to implement a mandatory and wide-ranging internet filter modeled on that of the Communist Chinese government.
This is not the first time the group has attacked government websites, having launched a similar stunt last September.
“The main government website, www.australia.gov.au, and parliament’s www.aph.gov.au were both affected along with the sites for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Communications Minister Stephen Conroy,” reports AFP.
“No one messes with our access to perfectly legal (or illegal) content for any reason,” said a statement released by the group.
The Australian government attacked the campaign as “not a legitimate form of political statement.”
Despite the Australian government promising that the Internet filter would only be used to block access to child pornography and other illegal websites, the watchdog group Electronic Frontiers Australia warned that the law will also allow the government to block any website it desires under vague definitions.
In March 2009, the Wikileaks website published a leaked secret list of sites slated to be blocked by Australia’s state-sponsored parental filter.
The list revealed that blacklisted sites included “online poker sites, YouTube links, regular gay and straight porn sites, Wikipedia entries, euthanasia sites, websites of fringe religions such as satanic sites, fetish sites, Christian sites, the website of a tour operator and even a Queensland dentist.”PP

Bills Decriminalizing “Kiddie” Prostitution
S.B. 304 & H.B. 582 Under Fire from Conservatives
Bills Decriminalizing “Kiddie” Prostitution Would Turn Morality Upside Down
The author promised to have a new version of S.B. 304 available February 8th. Hopefully, the new bill will not include the decriminalization of juvenile prostitution. If it does, the opposition will proceed. The following facts explain the persistent opposition to her original version.
S.B. 304 decriminalizing juvenile prostitution would drastically affect the law as follows:
* Minors under age 16 could not be charged with the offense of prostitution even when caught soliciting or committing the act. They could engage in and practice the full spectrum of sex acts, including but not limited to sexual intercourse or sodomy, and receive payment for it.
* Minors under age 16 could not be charged with the offense of masturbation, whether as a masseur, masseuse or “sex worker.” They could commit the offense of masturbation for hire (exclusive of sexual intercourse) and receive payment in money or other items.
During a press conference at the State Capitol, February 1, 2010 conservatives announced their opposition to a proposed legal change they never dreamed could occur in Georgia – the decriminalization of “kiddie prostitution2.” If S.B. 304 passes, juvenile prostitution would not be a crime in Georgia and law enforcement officers would have no jurisdiction over it.GI

Lawmaker: Climate change just ruse to control population
The Salt Lake Tribune
Updated: 02/05/2010 11:26:26 AM MSTSLC Tribune
Rep. Mike Noel, the Legislature's chief climate-change skeptic, declared Thursday that global warming is a conspiracy to control world population.
The House Natural Resources Committee then approved a resolution that expresses the Utah Legislature's belief that "climate alarmists' carbon dioxide-related global warming hypothesis is unable to account for the current downturn in global temperatures."
You got Anthrax in my Heroin - No you got Heroin in my Anthrax
"Heroin users are advised to cease taking heroin by any route, if at all possible, and to seek help from their local drug treatment services."
McCloskey added that the risk to the general population was "negligible."
Anthrax has been found in 19 heroin users in Scotland since December and nine of those people died, six of them in the Glasgow area, officials said.
The first case in London was confirmed yesterday, and the user was in hospital receiving treatment.
"Similarities to the cases in Scotland suggest that the heroin, or a contaminated cutting agent mixed with the heroin, is the likely source of infection," a spokesman for the HPA said.
Last month, the French health ministry issued a warning about contaminated heroin, noting the Scottish cases and one other case in Germany, and saying the drug could also be circulating in other European countries.
Anthrax is a potentially lethal bacterium that exists naturally in the soil and can also occur among cattle.
It is also, more notoriously, a potential bio-terror weapon.

What Kind of God?
A man is in prison, falsely convicted of murder.
He is a good man and has always tried to do what is right.
He prays for God to somehow set him free from prison.
There is a great earthquake, the walls of the prison fall down, he is free.
The prison was in Port Prince Haiti
"What kind of god would allow such suffering from an earthquake?"

Bloggers fighting terrorism, what a concept! There is another reason to keep the internet free from censorship.
It's Alright, we got Special Permission
But even if you’re someone who does want the President to have the power to order American citizens killed without a trial by decreeing that they are Terrorists (and it’s worth remembering that if you advocate that power, it’s going to be vested in all Presidents, not just the ones who are as Nice, Good, Kind-Hearted and Trustworthy as Barack Obama), shouldn’t there at least be some judicial approval required?PG
Beer Battles: Workers in Belgium Take on Brewing Giant
For two weeks in January Belgian brewery workers blocked roads, set fire to beer crates, kidnapped managers and handed out free beer as part of their tactics against job cuts proposed by Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer. The company announced the cuts in spite of profits of $1.55 billion in the third quarter of 2009.
“This is the ugly face of capitalism,” Roger Van Vlasselaer, the leader of a major Belgian union told Time. “AB InBev are just thinking of their bottom line for shareholders, regardless of the social cost. There is no reason at all to fire people.”
RTBF radio reported on January 8th that workers at the Belgian Jupiler brewery had taken 10 of their managers hostage, keeping them in a meeting room near the plant. Marc Devenne, a union member told Belga news, “We are demanding that the (company’s) senior managers come here and call off the lay-offs.”
But the AB InBev beer monopoly appeared to be more interested in profit than workers’ rights or even the quality of its own beer. According to Theo Vervloet, the chairman of the Belgian Brewers trade association, “AB InBev is thinking on a bigger scale and wants to go for volume rather than quality.”
In 2004, Belgian Interbrew and Brazilian AmBev, the third and fifth biggest brewers at the time, merged to become AmBev, Don Monkerud explained in an article for Dissident Voice. In 2008, AmBev purchased Anheuser-Busch for $52 billion, and thus gained control of Budweiser, Michelob, Stella Artois and Bass. The AB InBev monopoly now controls 25% of the world’s beer.
The protests in Belgium began on January 7th when AB InBev announced it would cut 800 jobs in Western Europe, including 299 of its 2,700 jobs in Belgium. Belgian unions looked to such policies as an attack on the rich brewing history culture of the country; Belgium is home to over 125 breweries.
In response to the proposed cuts, workers set up walls of beer crates at the entrances of the country’s three main brewing locations, stopping the regional transport of beer, as well as the arrival of ingredients, bottles and packaging material.PG
