Huge fire burns at Universal Studios lot
CTV.ca News Staff
A back lot at Universal Studios in Universal City, Calif. is the scene of a three-alarm fire.
Los Angeles fire Capt. Frank Reynoso said the blaze was reported just before dawn on Sunday.
Some media reports say the fire started at 4:44 a.m. local time.
Filming could have been going on at the time, and at least one explosion has been reported, he said.
About 100 firefighters are working with the studio's own crew to fight the blaze and ensure it doesn't spread to nearby brush, he said. TV images show helicopters dropping water on the blaze.
Reynoso said no injuries have been reported so far.
The studio is located north of downtown Los Angeles, mostly within Los Angeles County.
Investigators looking into gas leak as possible cause.
Was interesting to see that when I googled it this morning...the wikpedia site had some ironic yet funny info on there. Seems the main event at Universal Studios for the day was set for a 10 am showing of....yes you guessed it...none other than Backdraft. Guess they got an early start. Just had to share that with someone.
