People opposed to abortion tend to paint the picture this way: We will stop abortion by making it illegal.[STOP THINKING HERE]
People opposed to drug use tend to paint the picture this way: We will stop drug use by making it illegal. [STOP THINKING HERE]
Seems like it's set up to make it look like they are doing something about it (abortion & drugs) to fool simple minded people.
Here is an unauthorized quote from yellowdoggrannie's blog that I whole heartedly agree with.
"the assholes would rather see the mothers go to some back alley mid-wife and have some drunk with a coat hanger rip her insides out." (Than to be able to get a safe and legal abortion.)
I would say of a lot of well meaning, misguided people support the war on drugs, but still.
"The assholes would rather see hard working, tax paying citizens sit on their butts in prison (no longer paying taxes but gobbling up tax dollars) and kids buying crack and cheese on the playgrounds of America than to allow safe, legal, regulated and taxed drugs be sold in a liquor/drug store."
So to me these issues have a lot in common.

Meteorologist, KTEN News Midday & Texoma CW News at 9
I first visited Texas and Oklahoma with my family just a few years ago and was treated with such respect and friendliness; I knew the warm south was for me!
I am very excited and proud to say I work for KTEN-TV's SkyAlert10 weather team and am honored to be working with such knowledgeable colleagues, not to mention getting to work in Tornado Alley.
I grew up in New Holland, Illinois, a small farming community located in Central Illinois. My dad is a farmer and our lives revolve around the weather! I had no idea the impact he had on my life until I was randomly given the chance in my high school speech class, to learn more about Meteorology as a profession and call it destiny, but I knew this job was for me. I love that weather is ever changing and I can continuously learn from this experience, which is a dream come true.
When I was younger, I can remember getting up in the middle of the night to hear the thunder rolling across the vast sky and the lightning strikes that could be seen from miles away! You cannot deny how beautiful it is to watch the clouds build on a warm summer day and from this and many more experiences, I knew I needed to know more! I recently graduated from Northern Illinois University with a major in Meteorology and a minor in Broadcasting Journalism.
During my wonderful experience at Northern, I was given the chance to intern at Rockford, Illinois under Scott Harbaugh my sophomore year. My junior year, I interned under Tom Skilling of WGN Chicago and as you may know, he is one of the nations top meteorologists! I learned very valuable information from these gentlemen and I used this while working as a weekly Meteorologist for Northern's Television Center. I was also a very active member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and was apart of the American Meteorological Society.
I love meeting new people and am excited about getting to know the people of Texoma and learning all about the weather phenomena that dominate my new home!
When I am not watching the skies, you can find me soaking up the sun's rays, working out, and relaxing with friends!
It's raining again! We've had a drought every summer for five years and now this year floods.
I'm not complaining, the rain is a blessing, it's just strange. It's like our weather has changed to Tropical, I could get use to it. I could buy a bunch of Hawaiian shirts & flip flops and just go with the flow.

Andrews, Gard and Johns held town hall meetings in Manchester and Keene last week and met with the Monitor's editorial board Thursday.
Terrorism threatens the United States, but the war in Iraq is exacerbating the problem, not solving it, the generals said.
Gard, a graduate of West Point and Harvard who served 31 years in the Army, said the idea that "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" is empty rhetoric used to keep Americans scared so they don't question the administration's foreign policy. Fighting in Iraq will not stop someone who wants to blow up a dirty bomb in New York.
"These people are mobile," Gard said. "If they want to come in here, they'll come."

She said "Oh well, I'll just let him go." I said
"No! I don't want to condition him that way."
But Bob had already heard her say that he could go.
Now the 5 minute workout-
Pull a 150lb Bull Mastiff against his will, halfway down a block, up your driveway and into the house! I can feel it in my chest, back, arms and legs. Got my heart to pumping too.
Alt Version (Bob jumped in the window, started it up, drove down to the Sonic and ordered a "Ramrurger"!)

You just don't seem to have the anger or intolerance that you once did.
Your body is starting to go down hill, you're not as good a shot as you use to be.
When setting a roadside bomb you have to yell to the other terrorist
"Wait! Don't set it off yet, let me get out of the way!"
So you start thinking towards retirement.
See where I'm going with my free advice?
That's right, the wide open field of retirement homes for terrorist.
Recreation should include a gun range with American looking pop up targets.
Perhaps it should be located near a village so that the retired terrorist could go on day trips to plant bombs, just for old times sake.
A flight simulator could provide hours of good safe entertainment.
That concludes my free investment advice for today, good luck!

"Killer Heatwave Rips Through India and Pakistan - Temperatures Reach 50 Celsius, 122 Fahrenheit"
June 13, 2007
The intense heatwave in Pakistan and India claimed 156 more lives, raising the death toll due to oppressive heat conditions in the two countries to at least 340, media reports and officials said Tuesday.
Eight-two people perished in the heat-wave in Pakistan, with 75 deaths being reported from the central province of Punjab where the mercury hovered around 50 degrees Celsius on Monday, the Daily Express newspaper said.
In neighbouring India, at least 74 people died in the hot spell in northern and central regions on Monday, though light rain in some parts brought respite from the searing heat on Tuesday.
Hundreds more were hospitalized with heat stroke and gastroenteritis in Pakistan as the latest casualties raised the death toll to at least 192 in the current hot spell.
While temperatures touched 50 degrees Celsius in the plains areas of North-West Frontier Province, the meteorological department registered the record maximum temperature of 52 degrees Celsius in Sibi in the Baluchistan province.
Meanwhile, repeated power outages in the southern port city of Karachi prompted residents to block roads with burning tires in several districts, as well as pelt police vans with stones and harrass the offices of local electricity providers.
The Indian Meteorological Department said Sriganganagar and Churu towns in Rajasthan were the hottest, recording 46.3 degrees Celsius and 46.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
Weather officials, who pointed out that the heatwave was caused by winds from the Thar desert that straddles the southern-half of the India-Pakistan border, forecast that the affected regions would soon get a break from the killer heat.

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Hundreds of naked cyclists, some sporting strategically-placed body paint, toured the streets of London and other cities around the world Saturday to protest oil dependency and the car culture.
Traffic came to a standstill and onlookers gaped or took photographs as the bare cyclists streamed past London's landmarks, blowing whistles and waving flags saying "Rights for Bikes".
Cyclists in Paris, France; Madrid, Spain; and Vancouver, British Columbia, among other cities, joined in what was the fourth annual world naked bike ride.
More modest cyclists wore shorts, bikinis or strips of tape.
"We shouldn't be so dependent on oil," said Bogdan Potrowski, a 36-year-old Polish electrician, wearing just a baseball cap.

The pioneering project, launched on Tuesday, aims to repair damaged retinas with cells derived from human embryonic stem cells. Its backers say it involves simple surgery that could one day become as routine as cataract operations.
Religious leaders released this statement:
"It sounds alright but we'll find some reason to be against it."

MONTPELIER, VERMONT — A bipartisan bill to improve Vermont's medical marijuana program passed into law Wednesday, making the state the latest of several in New England – and around the country – to pass significant medical marijuana legislation this year. (June 1, 2007)
PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND — The final push to make the Edward O. Hawkins and Thomas C. Slater Medical Marijuana Act permanent is getting underway as legislators concluded formal approval of the bill today. The measure now moves to desk of Gov. Donald Carcieri (R). (May 30, 2007)
MONTPELIER, VERMONT — Steve Perry of Randolph Center welcomed news Thursday that a bill expanding eligibility for the state's medical marijuana registry would become law — even though the governor refused to sign it.
One morning we were in the Snack Shack, I got a clear plastic bottle of milk and so did Little Daddy.
We were standing in line and he looked down at his chocolate milk then over at my regular milk and said "WHAT IS THIS?"
"A RACIAL THING?"
I died, I laugh loud anyway but he really got me good, I was crying in laughter. Good ol' Little Daddy, he was fun to work with.

"And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation."
People in church laughed at me when I did it.
But for real, I assume that part is null and void?
Does any of the Old Testament still apply?
How do they decide which parts are still valid?
